Chapter 14
So far this is my favorite chapter to write, but it is also my most difficult. It introduces my little gender joke, which will follow my protagonist the rest of his life. It makes me smile every time I think of the idea. The hurdle I'm having is that I can see the events play out in my mind, and I have my hand-written draft done and ready to be typed, but as soon as he's on his way back, I can't think of how to transition to the next chapter. I'm sure once I have it all in the computer it will be easier to move on, but for now it's frustrating (and a little scary).

So I'm editing the chapter and putting the changes back into the digital copy (I hand-write my first draft and the edits), when I realize that my story is steadily shrinking. I know I can be long-winded with my writing, but 3300 words down from 3520 and only a third of the way through...I'm a little worried that I didn't say enough.
ReplyDeleteThe edit is done, and it's still over 3000 words, which is what I was hoping for. Now comes the difficult part: I have never written a draft for any part of the book from here on. The outline is done and getting longer by the week, but it's slow-going and I'm hoping for a breakthrough before I go back to work.
